May 1st
This week feels more like two weeks rolled into one! Adjusting to student living and life, adjusting to a new work environment and a different appreciation of time was exciting and exhausting. Yesterday and today have allowed me to get closer to the life and bustle of Leon. And… I love it! It is so rejuvenating to come away from what you know and throw yourself into a ‘parallel’ life.
The school I work at is fairly small. It is right in the centre (I take my cafe solo on the cathedral square before entering the school) and the premises are very impressive and really well cared for. All the teachers and the 2 head teachers are very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Some teachers don’t speak English, but with my Italian and snippets of Spanish we manage to communicate somehow.
I am very glad to be teaching children of primary school age! The children are boisterous and seem happy, and well behaved. The classes are smaller than in the UK, but that may still be a result of Covid regulations.
I started teaching classes last Thursday and had my 1st observed lesson on Friday with a year 6 class. I tried the board race game which turned out to be a great succes.
What I most appreciate so far is the kindness, support and energy from my fello trainees
