First week of teaching!
So far this week I've done at lot of teaching! I've taught 9 lessons for 1st and 2nd ESO and although last week it felt very daunting going straight from observing to planning and delivering most of my timetable, I’m very relieved I’ve done it now. I had my observed lesson on Friday and it went pretty well. It’s definitely not as scary as I thought it would be as the teachers are very supportive and understanding, and are looking to give advice rather than criticise.
At Santa Ana, there have been exams going on this week and next week so I’ve mainly been teaching revision classes. The 12/13 year olds are very excitable and a lot of my classes are quite noisy, but a positive to that is that they always get involved in the lessons and are always saying hello to me in the corridors and after school.
I have one class I haven’t taught yet and it’s my PMAR class. It is a small class of 8 15/16 year olds that are behind on their English. Their level is very low and the whole lesson is in Spanish and any questions that they ask me or answers I give back are translated by the teacher. I think this will be very challenging to teach but I am determined to give it a go, even only once before I leave!
On the weekend we went into Valencia and visited the old town and the Valencia Cathedral which was beautiful! We also went to a roof top bar with panoramic beach views and ate a very expensive and disappointing paella!
