Final day in León

This last week has been one full of emotions and feeling of achievement at the same time. Emotions because every time I finished teaching the last lesson in one class, I looked at the children and thought: ‘you are great children. You have given me so much happiness. I shall really miss you!’ And then the other feeling: it’s nearly time to go home! I cannot wait to see my kid, husband and my very sweet dog! And then, you pass the cathedral and think to be surrounded by so much beauty daily is so soothing to the soul. There was also a last time I met Mireia in our café: we tended to see each other there about once a week. A really lovely snippet in my experience here in León. Exchanging experiences with all the Erasmus+ participants were always highlights and to just meet one or 2 on the stairs or coming back from their school enhanced a feeling of togetherness and support. Thank you all!

Now to come to achievements, I absolutely loved teaching science; preparing for it, making PowerPoints and thinking of ways to make it relevant to the students and then discussing everything with them was invigorating and rewarding. My art lessons were another highlight! The corridor is filled with paintings by ‘Miro’ created by children. They hid in their paintings things they liked, their families and other information they wanted to add. We then had a gallery talk about our paintings. The art’s teacher liked it so much, she asked for my PowerPoint and will do a similar lesson in the year 2s and 3s. Really pleased with that!

Yesterday afternoon was rather hard: the children in Y6 had made a card and everyone had written a lovey note in English, the year 3 children and their teachers had made a lovely booklet with all the drawings of each child and all the year 2 children had made their own lovely drawings. The group hugs were overwhelming. One so easily forgets how primary school children are so loving and appreciative. I don’t think these amazing moments will ever leave me.

Thank you to Erasmus+ and UKLC for making this happen!
