Castles n Cannons


Had a great day exploring Cullera yesterday, we had a climb up to the Castle of Cullera which had some amazing views (and big cannons). Weather was perfect and it was lovely to see a bit of the nature Valencia has to offer. Going to the beach for a good swim today and then doing some lesson planning a bit later on ready for another great week of teaching.

Week 2/4

Another week of teaching has come to an end and I am looking forward to a lay in tomorrow! As much as I am enjoying teaching and this entire experience, getting up at 5:30 isn’t the best! Last week, I taught activities but not entire lessons. This week I started teaching full lessons. On Monday, I had my first lesson which also happened to be my observed one. It was a 4ESO Oral English class who had requested a lesson on Mamma Mia. This was a challenging lesson to plan as it was so broad and my mentor gave me all the freedom to do whatever I wanted. I wanted to create a fun lesson that they actually enjoyed as well as learning something. It worked out pretty well in the end and the students enjoyed the lesson. The observed lesson wasn’t nearly as scary as I was expecting. The teacher just sat at the back and let me get on with it. 5 Days to go...

 Hi readers! Well, a lot has happened since last we spoke! Where to begin 😂 Apparently in Leo'n you can't find a laundrette where you can use your own detergent, which for me, meant washing my clothes in the shower! Let's just say, that ended up with a white pair of jeans turning purple 😅 Then, when drying another pair of jeans, the paint from the wall came off and died them white! And I caught another pair on something and ripped them on the side, what a disaster! So, yesterday, I took a little trip to Primark, which was over the river, and I ended up finding a nice shopping centre. I bought a new pair of jeans, then got lost on the way back, cause I'm out of data which means no mapping 😬 Got some nice photos whilst lost though... Whilst hunting for my way back to the accommodation, I met 2 Erasmus students studying at the uni, who were on their way there, so they walked with me, so being lost can sometimes result in some good moments. Week 2 begins...

Now we've gone to a cathedral, eaten paella, been stared at by some locals and gone to the beach, it really feels like we're in Valencia! Saturday was a shopping and exploring day, and I found a few nice things to buy, including a ring that I'm sure will remind me of this trip whenever I wear it. The inside of the cathedral is breathtaking, and the connecting church has the most amazing painted ceiling. There was a wedding going on while we were looking around and taking pictures, which felt kind of bizarre to be intruding but also quite cool to witness. After that we found a restaurant which had the 'best paella in Valencia' according to the owner, but none of us were particularly impressed with the result, or the owner or price! Oh well, we wont go there again. Sunday was the sunniest day of the weekend took ourselves on the metro and tram to the beach, lazed in sun the sun and swam in the sea quite contentedly.
