5 Days to go...

Well, a lot has happened since last we spoke!

Where to begin 😂

Apparently in Leo'n you can't find a laundrette where you can use your own detergent, which for me, meant washing my clothes in the shower! Let's just say, that ended up with a white pair of jeans turning purple 😅 Then, when drying another pair of jeans, the paint from the wall came off and died them white! And I caught another pair on something and ripped them on the side, what a disaster! So, yesterday, I took a little trip to Primark, which was over the river, and I ended up finding a nice shopping centre. I bought a new pair of jeans, then got lost on the way back, cause I'm out of data which means no mapping 😬 Got some nice photos whilst lost though...






Whilst hunting for my way back to the accommodation, I met 2 Erasmus students studying at the uni, who were on their way there, so they walked with me, so being lost can sometimes result in some good moments.

On Sunday, we went to Oviedo, organised by Language Kingdom, where we saw bagpipes being played, Mafalda (who is really famous in Italy, and apparently Spain too), quite a few statues (there's 108 statues in Oviedo!!), and we tried the famous Sidra (cider).





Today, I ended up working in Nursey for 3 hours instead of 1, it was amazing!! I read them the book 'the very hungry caterpillar', and then we made a little caterpillar using paper, and straws.


They loved it!! They asked me when I go home, and I said Sunday, that Friday was my last day, and they got really sad, asking me if I could stay, and do I have to go home. They all ran up hugging me, shouting 'te quiero'. I think nursery will be the class I miss the most, and I won't be with them on Friday unfortunately because they're on a trip, but the nursery teacher has asked me to come round on Thursday, so that'll be nice.

I have my observation on Friday too! I chose the best class I have, 3°EP, they do everything I ask, and classroom control isn't an issue, such a nice class, and not too many students either.

I'll keep you updated on Friday how it all goes! My last day at the school 😔 But I won't lie, I can't wait to go home, back to my boyfriend. I told my mum today that if it wasn't for missing my boyfriend so much, I'd happily love abroad, you can imagine my mum was pleased to hear that 😂😂

Week 1b - I cannot dance

Today was the first day of school. It all feels so non-stop. I am exhausted already and there is a whole week ahead. I still cannot quite process what is going on. UKLC have flown me out, given me five-star training in Kent, provided great and uncomplicated accommodation, fed me and have basicaly done everything from putting me on the plane in London through to just short of tucking me into bed in Spain. Haiku 5: Food

 --- In a wash of heat a Colombian woman proudly lays out food --- This weekend has been wonderful. Yesterday, me, Lieve and Bob went to Leon’s contemporary art museum in the morning. We took a slightly longer route to get there (which, hem, had nothing to do with my map reading skills..) which took us down smaller streets with beautiful views of Leon’s old and new buildings crammed together – it still hasn’t stopped surprising me how evidence of different eras exist so easily together here. People will zoom past medieval walls on their electric scooters and a block of 1920s flats squeezes up beside a supermarket. I didn’t like everything in the art museum, but some things I loved, including an installation of a city street reflected in puddles, changing from day to night. The visit made me feel grounded again. Patrick's Packing list

I looked through all the blog posts from previous years and could not find anyone who has posted a complete list of items they packed. I thought I would do the honours instead. This might be the last year of the Erasmus+ because of Brexit, so I'm not sure if this will be so useful for future applicants, but in case the government changes its mind and restarts the programme (perhaps not named after a dutchman but someone more relevant to the 21st century like Bernard Matthews or Ainsley Harriet) refer to calm your minds, people from the future! - Passport  - CELTA Certificate ( Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults, not the  Certification in Elephant and Lion Taming--easy mistake to make!)  - GHIC Card - Proofs of Address used for DBS Certificate - Jeans - Shorts (jorts?) - Medication (meditation?) - Coat + hoodie ('expect an arctic tundra' is what I heard in conversation with permanent staff) - GoPro (odd name for a camera used exclusively by amateurs) - Sock...
